Louise

Louise is the Mama of the farm, freely wandering as she pleases. She’s earned it her role, helping us greatly get to where we are today by coming out of Chicago Animal Care and Control herself and being a great foster mother to 14 other dogs over the years.

Small Fry

Small Fry is the first and only resident to be born here since we’ve arrived. He has educated us in the ways of baby goats and now he’s a wily teenager. He’s growing up fast, but any kid would with the family he has!

JoJo.jpeg

Jojo

Jojo is affectionately known as Jojo The Wanderer around here because she has a love for acorns and will walk many acres in search of them! Jojo was already a resident here before FTW started and it’s safe to say she’s not walking away from us anytime soon!

Georgia

Georgia

Georgia is a big mama with the personality to go with. She’s an 11 year old Warm Blood who we believe was a brood mare before hitting the auction lot in Colorado and making her way to Indiana. She’s sweet and gentle but can be pretty shy, it always helps to break the ice with her with a fresh carrot!

Lola

Sweet Lola is the only lady goat here at FTW and the mother of Small Fry. Being a mom isn’t easy and it took a lot of not so fun morning and evenings getting her to feed Small Fry as a baby, but were happy to say she’s come a LONG way and those two are often found relaxing together. Watch out, she’s the hungriest of all the goats!

Leroy

Leroy, the goofy boy! Leroy came from Chicago Animal Care and Control after being owner surrendered twice. He is three years old and a forever puppy with his deep eyes and gigantic paws. He LOVES to play and is not shy. Fun fact about Leroy… he speaks Spanish!

Jolene

Jolene

Jolene is a five year old Mustang, probably from Colorado and rounded up by the Bureau of Land Management before being auctioned off and sent to live at the farm here. She’s had training prior to living with us as she’s incredibly smart. She’s also incredibly independent, so she’s teaching us a lot while we try to teach her a lot!

Tony Soprano & Large Marge

Tony here was scooped up off the streets in Chicago by animal care and control. Judging by his breed and behavior we believe he may have been used or trained for cock fighting. He’s calmed down a lot since moving here and is a loud, independent boy. Large Marge is an independent gal and is often seen trying to squeeze through gates she is a little too wide for.

Tom

Tom is a sweet sweet boy who was picked up from the South side of Chicago. His clipped ear indicates that at one point he was a feral cat who was trapped, neutered and released. Eventually, the folks at Barn Cat Freedom Project scooped him up and found his forever home here with us. He is the king of the barn, often keeping an eye on things from his throne of hay in the warm second floor. He loves aggressive pets and will often invite you to follow him back to his barn castle.

The Battery Farm Gals

These ladies are some of our most special residents. They were among a small number of hens rescued from an egg operation in Iowa that shut down and euthanized thousands of birds due to Covid 19. Upon arriving at FTW they were sickly and would not leave their cage for weeks. They’ve slowly opened up to the world and explored and it makes us very proud that they are happy ladies now found sunning themselves in whatever corner of the farm they like!

Ollie.jpg

Ollie

Ollie is one of the three original pig residents here at FTW. He’s a big boy who loves more than anything to play and burrow in the mud. His snout is a machine and he’s been seen burrowing anywhere he thinks he has a chance making a nice mud bath!

Charlie

Charlie is the official teenager of the goats and quickly becoming a young man, likely a little over a year old. He is part of the large group of goats that previously lived here but not the kid of Lola and Billy. He’s now big enough that he’s really giving Billy a run for his money when they playfully lock horns!

Billy.jpg

Billy

Billy is the old man of the group both in age and behavior. He also has a magnificent wizard like beard. Billy is the patriarch, keeping an eye on the rest of the playful group while he relaxes in a shady area. Watch out, though cause this old man can still get out and show the young ones how it’s done!

Petunia.jpg

Petunia

Petunia is the sweetest of the piggies here. She is a professional relaxer, known to burrow under straw, blankets, tarps, whatever she can find to hide in! She never roams too far and is friendly, but also happy doing her own thing.

IMG_3957.jpg

Elliot

Elliot was found wandering the South Side of Chicago as a six month old by animal care and control. His owners eventually came looking for him but decided he would have a better life here when they found out he was on the farm. He’s very friendly and vocal, and loves to explore! This little guy has a big life ahead of him and we love that he’s with us!

RogerRoger was found dumped in an alley by a good samaritan who took him in and pampered him til they were able to find sanctuary here with us. We believe due to his young age and large size that he’s a Freedom Ranger, a brand of chicken (you heard that right, a BRAND, not breed) that is bred to grow incredibly fast for meat production. We’re happy that he found his way to us and will only know a carefree and happy life from here on out.

Roger

Roger was found dumped in an alley by a good samaritan who took him in and pampered him til they were able to find sanctuary here with us. We believe due to his young age and large size that he’s a Freedom Ranger, a brand of chicken (you heard that right, a BRAND, not breed) that is bred to grow incredibly fast for meat production. We’re happy that he found his way to us and will only know a carefree and happy life from here on out.

Jack

Jack was rescued from a kill pen in Michigan that direct ships horses to slaughter. We think he’s about 20 years old. We’re working on getting him tuned back up and are happy he gets to live out his golden years here on the farm!

Fawn

Fawn was picked up on the north side of Chicago by Animal Care and Control. We believe she could be a Dwarf/Dairy goat cross, because she’s tiny! People always ask why she has little wattles under her chin, so here’s the answer: they appear to be evolutionary remnants of a gland no longer needed or required by the body and serve no function. So there ya go! Whatever they are, we’re happy that she’s safe here with us.
